A lesson in Democracy

Candidates for the parliamentary election visit the Landheim for a panel discussion

On Monday, the 18th of September the most promising candidates for the parliamentary election visited the Landheim Schondorf.

From 10 o´clock on Christian Winkelmeier (SPD), Britta Hundesrügge (FDP), Kerstin Täubner-Benicke  (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) and Bernhard Feilzner (Die Linke) answered questions from the audience. Michael Kießling (CSU) sadly was not available.

The audience consisted of our students from grade 1 to 12, even our elementary school children had thought about some questions.

The panel discussion was moderated by two A-Level students. The future of the diesel car, a maximum limit of refugees, deployments abroad of the GermanArmed Forces as well as the pensions debatte were the main topics. Questions on these topics were prepared by our students and their teachers beforehand. The open discussion afterwards even added some more topics and clarifyed the differences and similarities between the parties and their candidates.

In the end our students presented the politicians "politcal correct" flowers in the colours of their party. The director of the Landheim Foundation Rüdiger Häusler thanked the candidates and wished good luck for the upcoming election.

The studentes opinion afterwards was overwhemingly positive, comfirmed by the intense discussions  after the event. Students, teachers and the candidates agreed that this morning was a great lesson in democracy.
